Hi Peggy and Tim,
Thank you very much for a great day for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I especially enjoyed getting to know the both of you and spending time sharing our mutual enjoyable hobby/career of flying. It was great to experience the flight in a World War 2 trainer that the both of you have preserved and kept going. I appreciate the pictures you sent me and have shared them with many of my friends. It was a beautiful day and I learned a lot about the Stearman and it's flight characteristics.
Thank you Tim for allowing me to be at the controls and get the feel of such a beautiful piece of history. It is a beautiful, graceful old bird which has such a beautiful sound.

My dad, Bob, visited you recently. His flight in your Piper J-3 Cub was absolutely remarkable on so many levels.
I thank you for his opportunity to fly a plane that he once used to own many years ago, and gave him a chance to fly after 57 years. I had no idea he was going to do that, and when I saw your amazing photos, I was absolutely floored. I shared your pictures on facebook, and Dad got a zillion positive, supportive comments from all my family and friends on facebook.
That flight made his day, week, month, and year. I sent the pictures to other family and friends (who aren't on facebook), so the story of his flight got around to everyone.
Thanks so very much for such a Big Thrill for Dad. And it certainly was a gift for me, too, all his happiness.

I don’t know if Tim and Peggy remember me! But I bought a small tail wheel aircraft and needed a Tail dragger endorsement about 1.5 years ago.. Someone recommended the Preston’s to me and to Winter haven I went... I had a blast and learnt a lot! Tim got me competent in 2-3 flights and signed me off. This is the most fun I’ve had in an airplane in a while and Tim humbled me back into the basics of stick and rudder skills. Numerous type ratings and certs later, I still look back and remember how much I learned in that short span of time!

The feeling was reciprocal. K told me that he enjoyed the flying so much. There is this gulf of difference between his previous instruction mostly by young hour builders and a consummate pro like Tim who know what to say, when to say it and sometimes when to say nothing. K felt very much at home and for me that’s awesome because those are life lessons which go beyond flying and can build behavior and character.

Fantastic Experience - A true license to Learn!!
Here is a 'PIREP' I posted on BeechTalk forum...
I just returned from a very pleasant three day trip to visit the folks at Preston Aviation in Winter Haven, FL (KGIF) to complete a tail-wheel endorsement. Tim Preston and his wife Peggy run a great operation, and are just down-to-earth, friendly folks! Tim is also a highly experienced tail-wheel CFI. Training is offered in both a J-3 Cub and a Stearman.
I completed my tail-wheel endorsement in 6.4 hours spread across three very enjoyable days of J-3 Cub flying. Weather was nearly perfect, and it was great to escape the miserable cold of the Northeast for a couple of days!
If anyone is considering adding tail-wheel skills to their repertoire, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with Preston Aviation! Highly Recommend!

My wife treated me to the surprise opportunity of combining my passion for flying and the chance of warmer weather in way of a 10 day holiday around the Christmas/New Year period of 2016/17.
As a pilot myself I have always enjoyed a diverse variation of aircraft and love the community spirit of the General Aviation fraternity but secretly hankered flying vintage aircraft from a bygone era.
From the outset, on the initial meeting with Tim and Peggy Preston of Preston Aviation in the office based in the main municipal airport facilities in Winter Haven, it was obvious that here were a couple with a passion and a spirit for flying that was tangible away from the obvious business side of the enterprise.
Their love of life and commitment to flying was infectious.
I had nearly two hours of instruction and hands on, flying the delightful 1940’s Boeing Stearman which is lovingly maintained and flown, it was an absolute pleasure to have been part of that passion Tim and Peggy obviously have and the history surrounding that lovely aircraft.
Peggy was a very able assistant in the initial strapping in and continued in her role as photographer and was treated to an extensive amount of photographs later sent by email together with go-pro footage made available at the time via helmet mounted cam’ which has resulted in a collection of superb visual memories.
Tim is thorough in his pre-flight inspection, cockpit and initial flight instruction and was happy for me to take control for most of the flying reinforcing my confidence in him and the flights also included an outlanding to a delightful grass strip, never officious in his role as instructor but encouraging and wonderfully supportive when required.
Well done Tim and Peggy Preston, you have made a fellow aviator a very happy individual indeed good luck in the future.

The best thing are the People. Very friendly people that make you feel comfortable. The Team is Peggy, the Boss and Tim, a very experienced Flight Instructor. They truly love what they do and their operation is very well organized. In March 2016 I was looking for a school to get a Tailwheel Endorsement. After reviewing a few Flight Schools on the internet, I sent an email to Preston Aviation. It was responded almost immediatly answering all my questions. Unfortunately they were booked on my free week. Peggy was very helpful and came out with a solution for me to get the training done, which included two flights a day. It all worked out great and I am thankful for their efforts and time. Tim is an excellent flight instructor and he walked me trough all the steps in learning to fly a tailwheel. He taught me Stick and Rudder skils that will be valuable for the rest of my aviation carreer. I learned wheel landings, power off wheel landings and 3 point landings. I learned how to fly a close traffic pattern and power off precision approaches. I did my Biennial Flight Review. Tim trully knows how to transmit knowledge with a calmed paused voice. One of the best trainings I ever had. A week later I received a set of professional photos taken by Peggy!! Peggy is really friendly, nice talking to, and willing to help person. This is not a school that is interested in your money. They are interested in helping you get High Quality Training with Great Customer Service. I will definitely come back and have my son take a J3 flying lesson. Their airplanes are in top notch condition. Flew the Piper J3 Cub and the Boeing Stearman. Total Customer Satisfaction!!

Came over from the UK to fly five hours on the Stearman........ I'm hooked and I want one!

I'm lost for words to express how grateful I am, it was a dream come true for me and I feel so proud, I feel privileged having being trained by somebody with a pedigree like Tim's and being brushed with such tremendous knowledge and experience. And I've absolutely loved how you tried in every way possible to make this experience as divine as it was. Thank you guys for accommodating me on such a short notice and providing me with this wonderful opportunity, I'm definitely taking with me a tale i'd be telling on. And sorry for being a bit late with the response, I've been busy preparing for the journey back home, getting family some gifts and gifting myself. And I did not want to rush with the reply. We should keep in touch and I hope we'll meet again in the near future, either here or the other side as they say. Tomorrow I leave Miami and I'd write again when I settle back. Wow. Tim did a great job teaching the tailwheel airplane despite my bad habits and ham fisted beginnings. Three points and wheel landings and cross-winds. Peggy took care of scheduling and did the photo work that allowed me to post so my non-pilot friends could appreciate this too.

Tim and Peggy,
I am sorry to report that my Dad, Charles H. Lott, left us on Thursday, December 3rd at the age of 90.
He enjoyed his time flying with Tim, especially when he flew your 1946 Cub out of Eustis in the winter. It reminded him of when he flew his brand new 1946 Cub out of Almonesson Airport in New Jersey.
In the week before he flew the Stearman we had learned that his Cancer had returned and spread and that it was not likely that he would have much time left.
We took our last flight together on October 6th. He made it until his 90th Birthday on November 12th when his Grandkids and his Great Grandkids came home to celebrate with him, then went downhill pretty quickly after that.

I'm sure you do not remember me. I took lessons from Tim when you were based during winter North of Orlando in White Stearman.
I taught students for 15 years from Tomahawks to King Airs. I still found those hours with Tim as the most rewarding experience. As he said "Harley with wings" :)
I'm glad you are still at it. Just a little envious of you I'm afraid.

It is only when I fly with other instructors that I can really appreciate how good Tim is at what he does. In all the hours going around in circles he maintains an aura of supreme patience and even when he has corrected something for the umpteen time there is no detectable irritation in his voice.There are not many like him.

Yes, yesterday was a super day for both my son and myself. The ride in the Cub was soooo much fun and it flies virtually by itself. As Time noted, the only difficult part is perfecting landing a tail-dragger. Thanks much for the photos; they came out well and are an excellent record of my 1st Cub ride. Thanks, too, to Tim for letting me move the stick for a large chunk of the flight1 I am even more enthused today about getting my tail-wheel endorsement (from Time, of course) and looking to become a proud, and happy, Cub owner in the not-too-distant future.
BTW: I am a Level 6 Contributor to Trip Advisor and I wrote an account of the splendid Cub ride and included a sterling recommendation for Preston Aviation last evening. Trip Advisor should publish it within the next few days.
Brandon's glider ride was nothing less than super. The 10-minute climb by the tow plane, with a release at 4,000 AGL, and good winds from the N, gave a ride of some 40+ minutes...significantly longer than the 30 mins advertised for that particular ride. Since the minimum weight for the Grob front-seater is 154lbs, and Brandon comes up 87 lbs. short of that number, he had to take the back seat. I asked the glider instructor, Steve Gibb (who knows you) to demo a stall, then let Brandon do one with Steve talking him through it. Brandon did 4 more stalls that, in the 103, is loads of fun! I have about 12hrs in 103 and Brandon now has 0.75.
My family - including Brandon, wife, Mimi, and her mother, Lucy - and I really enjoyed meeting the both of you. It is easy to see why, between your warm personalities, relaxed demeanors, and the
professionalism you both manifest, you have a very successful business. Seemed like the 3 or 4 folks we talked to at Seminole Park Gliderport knew you and spoke very highly of your business and Tim's ample experience and skills.
Attached is a photo of Brandon pre-takeoff tow. We look forward to seeing you again and perhaps a Stearman ride for Brandon and another ride for me in the Cub through the 1000' AGL patch with Tim.

This was a great adventure for me to do this flight and with Tim I felt very save and common in the air.

I can say, it was a really great vacation the roundtrip through Florida. So much to see, so much new. I know we have to come back and then I will stop again on your place.
Now back in Austria, we get prepared for the winter ;-)

A great fun trip. Having flown around the world at various schools, the experience with Tim and Peggy was great. Real authentic tail dragger flying. The experience is relaxed and enjoyed as it should be. No pushy sales, no clock watching. Just how a flying school should be. Wonderful!

I only had an afternoon in Winter haven to get a few hours of tail wheel instruction to add an endorsement to my Private Pilots License so I spent the time with Tim and Peggy Preston in their Stearman biplane. Tim is a super instructor. I made more progress with him in 3 hours than with 2 other instructors and 4 hours elsewhere. Flying the Stearman is like going back in time, I highly recommend it for flight instrution or sightseeing. Thanks Tim and peggy for a once in a lifetime experience. see you again!

Peggy, I can't begin to thank you and Tim enough for making my "bucket list" wish come true. As a teenage I always wished that I could get to fly in an open cockpit biwing and my dream was the Stearman. I was most thrilled that Tim let me take the controls for awhile, what a thrill !

Hi Peggy Hi Tim It was really a great surrprise coming home and finding images from our visit to you .It had been wonderful hours we could spend with you.So let me say thank you again. we arrived in Germany one day later because our flight had been cancelled in order of engine trouble.( so we had to stay a very short night in Hyatt Regency Airport Hotel.) They were “higher than kites” (pun intended!) when they told me about the experience, and they raved about your hospitality. I’m sure they probably told you that many of their first dates (way back in 1958) were centered around flying, so this probably somewhat nostalgic for them too.

Lee and I are looking forward to getting back down to Winter Haven so that he

Peggy, Thanks to both of you for providing a great birthday adventure for Don. When he started out the morning he was real grumpy, but that rapidly changed as he realized what was in store. After the flight he was grinning from ear to ear and he still is when he tells others. As you may recall Don was going on a glider ride the following day. He said “I don’t need to do that again but I sure want to fly that Stearman again.

Thank y'all for the experience I received this past weekend. Flying the Stearman was a life long goal that I was able to achieve and surpass by being signed off to fly it. Tim, your instruction was awesome and its helped me even coming back here and flying my Cessna 150. Hopefully I'll be able to come back down soon and stay current on the Stearman. Hello Peggy,
Derrick enjoyed it a ton, learned a lot from Tim and not just about the Cub and Stearman but tools Derrick can use throughout his aviation lifetime. Tim is the professional that all CFI'S should model themselves after!
But now for you....... You and Tim are a perfect blessed couple and two peas in a pod. I worried I would get bored and or pester you when you had work to do. Neither happened and I to enjoyed myself. Thank you very much. Even after spending $400.00 in a camera upgrade. He. He. The only problem that came from a weekend of flying and seeing a very active airport is that Derrick REALLY wants a Piper Archer in the family. Maybe next year

Many thanks for the pictures they are a great reminder of a fantastic experience.
Some noticeable differences to my limited flying to date - the plane has no roof and no doors, no yolk - just a stick, just the bare essential of instruments, no ATC, and very little traffic – a great way to experience all the best aspects of flying.
Some of the most memorable bits
- Learning about how it responds from a stall – it virtually flies itself
-Learning a lazy 8 – weightless then a couple of Gs - better than the roller coasters
- Searching for alligators along the side of lakes at 500’
-Seeing the Floridian countryside from a better angle
It was a pleasure to meet you both and to fly the Stearman!

You know the funny thing is by being back home here in Austria that the great flying I did at your place seems even to be more greater what I have done, because such kind is here not possible, I should have stayed more longer! Next time I do! Please tell Tim that I loved it so much, and I learned a lot, not only flying but the way of seeing things and attitude too. He gave me really very, very much! experience to anyone traveling to Fla. It was very cool to see Central Fla.
from the air! We were amazed by all the lakes that are connected by canals,
Legoland and the citrus groves. Tim gave a great tour of the area and explained
everything about our vintage plane. Peggy made us feel very comfortable and
told us exactly what to expect.

Hi Peggy & Tim. Back to work in Monaco and often thinking about the good time talking with both of you about flying, about the Stearman and how it was in the ‘good old time’ of Tail Wheel Aircrafts.
Hope I can be back sometime this year and fly again with Tim. Also, thanks for the pictures, they are nice. Peggy you are a good photographer indeed! I had the opportunity to go to Sun n’Fun museum in Lakekland and to see the 3 stearmans, 1 waco and 2 Ryan they have there. Nice. I would like to give a special Thanks to Tim who help me to understand the Stearman and how to handle a TW Vintage Aircraft and also allow me to discover Winter Haven and other airfields around. You are lucky to live is such a nice Area. Tim is actually one of the Best Instructor I had, he loves to fly the Stearman and share his passion with students.... and he provided me the TW endorsement..... During November 2011 I spent 3 days ( 6 hours) training for my tail wheel endorsement.
The whole experience was extremely satisfactory from the technical side of the flights to the logistics needs. Tim Preston will help you to obtain the skills you need to master the “old flying” in a very professional, personal and friendly way. Tim has a vast expertise on tail wheel aircraft and related matters, from mechanical maintenance to history of the old flying instruction to training procedures.
Aircrafts are well maintained and kept in pristine condition. The coordination for training / aircraft schedule is simple and you’ll get Peggy Preston assistance (she will make sure your time at Preston is enjoyable from any point of view).

............I recently returned from Florida. While there, I took advantage of the opportunity to sample a Stearman (PT-17, fitted with the W-670), at Preston Aviation, about an hour's drive from Orlando. The aircraft was in good shape, and Tim Preston was friendly and enthusiastic.
Being cheap by nature, my first thought was " it is too expensive; I'll just find a private owner and arrange a flight for a lot less". However, Tim allowed me to fly from the rear cockpit and to do all of the flying (yes, including the takeoffs and landings): which I doubt would have been possible with a privately owned airplane. This permitted me to obtain a good sense of how the aircraft handles, and the money was well worth it. If you're in Orlando, consider making an appointment. |

Thank you Tim & Peggy for making my first flying lessons so enjoyable. I had a
lot of fun learning in the Cub, which was a beautiful, well looked after plane.
I could only dream of having one of my own in such good quality! Recently
British Airways started a 'Future Pilot Programme' which I'm looking into for my
further training to become an airline pilot. The exemplary and invaluable
teaching Tim gave me will be more than enough to propel me into my aviation
career and give me the leading edge over my competitors. Thank you again and I
will hopefully come back for another ride in the cub, that plane was just too
much fun!

In 2003 am children gave me a gift for Fathers Day, which was a 45 minute ride in your Stearman BiPlane. I could see your plane go over my house in New Milford, and my daughter asked if I would ever ride in that thing and I said "in a heart beat". Well that was my gift that Fathers Day and I will never forget it. It was a thrill I will never forget. This year my gift was a 44 cent stamp with my picture on it setting in that Stearman
The picture I am sending is the picture my daughter took the day I took my plane ride and is the same picture on the stamp. It was such a special day for me, and I always wanted to remember it, I had her put it as my wallpaper on my computer. I miss the special sound of that plane coming over the hills and valleys.
